December Daily (update 2)

December Daily still plugging along.

I’ve finally gotten enough caught up with Project Life that I’ve started editing photos from December.

What I’ve been trying to do is just take photos all day. Journal a little bit in my Blurb template for the appropriate day.

Then once I have all the photos edited, I can just drag-and-drop them in to the right day and have it almost be done.

*Trying* I said.

Always an obstacle: I work until 11p, don’t get home til almost midnight, and go to bed immediately (because I’m actually a ‘morning person’) … so any journaling will be done the next day.

I’m realizing that we are doing *very little* holidayish things this month. This is more of a day-to-day book for the most part. BUT my family is coming into town for several days before Christmas so at least we’ll have that.

blog promotion tip: It looks like Ali is including a linkup for every day of December Daily. So if you’re keeping up every day and blogging about it, make sure you go over there to add your appropriate link and encourage new readers to come find your site!

Sidenote: I’m working on putting together a December Daily project page. Let me know if there is anything specific you’d like to see on a landing page like that.

I’ve slightly changed my template. I decided I will NOT be moving the date label around (like last year) so instead I centered the date label so it at least looks deliberate.

Some examples of my pages so far (I didn’t realize how many family-in-the-mirror photos I had taken until I put these together!)

December is for

  • December Daily 2012
  • so between that and Project Life I will be spending most of December taking and editing photos
  • getting a big Christmas tree for our front window
  • trying to keep the cats from climbing all the way to the top
  • Working on posts for my annual L&R blog party! (so I’m not doing them all the day before as in previous years)
  • My parents’ 35th wedding anniversary (!)
  • Andrew’s work’s Christmas party
  • *should* be slow at the day job for me most of the month
  • 4 day weekend for Christmas. But back to work Dec 26. And also working New Year’s Eve. Til 8p. So that’s awesome.
  • watching Christmas movies! I can rewatch those over and over …. favorites include Elf, White Christmas, and an old TV movie called A Muppet Family Christmas
  • Going to see The Hobbit at midnight (! the first movie we will be seeing in the theater since HP7.2)
  • and taking that day off work. Just because.
  • getting the last of the little Christmas gifts we need to get
  • planning several big projects for after the first of the year
  • need to take new headshots….. to go with my new site design which should be up by the end of the month!
  • snuggling with the babies

What do you have planned?

December Daily 2011 : Base pages

I have been going back and forth with whether or not I wanted to participate in Ali Edwards’ December Daily project this year.

Keeping a physical minibook for the autumn season has been so fun …. But expensive and a little exhausting. (Final update on that coming soon, by the way. As soon as I get my Thanksgiving photo prints).

I mentioned last week that I am currently working on a couple different books to be printed with Blurb, so I thought why not do my December Daily album with Blurb as well? Just text and photos, but that’s really all I need. I don’t have the money or energy to go shopping for all the fun little Christmas embellishments that make physical scrapbooking so fun.

So, since I’m doing a Blurb book ….

I’m excited to be able to work on it every single day, without having to to break out the adhesive, paper cutter, etc. PLUS with my autumn minibook, I have had to place an order with SmugMug every week or so for photo prints to put in my physical album.

By using Blurb, I still will have to place an online order and pay for shipping, but at least it will be all at once at the end, instead of every week.

Here are the base pages *so far* -

I’ve made title pages for each of the days (this gallery only shows through Dec 12, and then the templates repeat through the end of the month). I don’t actually own photoshop or anything similar, so I will be exclusively using Blurb’s book design software to create/format the pages.

We already have basically ALL our weekends in December booked up, so between that and house-shopping, this should be a great month to document on a daily basis!

Other random notes about my December Daily project:

  • I *may* only do the album through Christmas Day, but we’ll see
  • I will need to remember to take plenty of photos to fill up these pages!
  • I may in fact use some of these December Daily prompts and ideas for days when nothing especially holiday-ish happens

Are you participating in December Daily? Have you prepped your album yet?

2010 in review

All of 2010 was pretty awesome.

We didn’t go on any BIG vacations, but we did get a couple mini getaways:

San Francisco for LAST New Years

Paso Robles to shoot Andrew’s co-workers wedding

Hearst Castle for my birthday

Phoenix to visit my family

I went on a Mexico cruise with Andrew’s sister

San Diego to snorkel with sharks

Palm Springs just because

We didn’t travel out of the country really, but we did a lot of Los Angeles local touristing (why, yes. ‘Touristing’ is a word I made up. You may use it).

Grammy Museum

Griffith Observatory

Visited the Annenberg Space for Photography

Saw In the Heights at the Pantages

Hollywood Bowl (more than once)

We didn’t buy a house, but we did save a BUNCH more money and found a 1 bedroom that we really love for the time being

I didn’t get to quit my ‘day job’ but I did shoot/book a couple more weddings AND launch Lemon and Raspberry!

I read about 14,000 books. Give or take a couple.

And then JUST in the month of December:

I took a RISK and applied for a job I was only marginally *qualified* for but 120% dedicated to learn (didn’t get it :) )

I started dipping my toes into another service to offer via L&R

I got 3 wedding photography inquiries + meeting (HUGE since I haven’t really been promoting my wedding photography for several months)

I got a video camera to start video-blogging….

Just yesterday Andrew told me he thought 2011 would be our best year ever…..

I’ve loved 2010 but I know I will also love 2011 …

Today, really, can be the start of the best year ever!
