I’ve been re-reading Anne of Green Gables. Again.
And, yes, this is approximately the 20+th time I’ve read the series.

I know not everyone feels this way … but there are some books (like these) that I just love to read again and again.
I glean something new every time I read them. Every year my life and my personal situation are a little bit different, so my appreciation of the book(s) is altered a little bit.
This most recent spring, while reading the Anne series AGAIN, I was struck by how often Anne talks about her life work, her chosen work, and her purpose.
all quotes from Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery:
“The new minister and his wife were a young, pleasant-faced couple, still in their honeymoon, and full of all good and beautiful enthusiasms for their chosen lifework” (pg 170)
(I love the idea of having a chosen life work and having a team mate to go through it with you)
“I shall take more interest than ever in my studies now,’ said Anne blissfully, ‘because I have a purpose in life. Mr. Allan says everybody should have a purpose in life and pursue it faithfully. Only he says we must first make sure that it is a worthy purpose.’” (pg 243)
(I love the idea of having a WORTHY purpose. Not selling the biggest houses in town. But instead helping real families get into their new home just right for them)
“I’ve done my best and I begin to understand what is meant by the ‘joy of the strife.’ Next to trying and winning, the best thing is trying and failing.” (pg 287)
(I love the idea of being content with trying and failing, if trying and winning doesn’t work out. Enjoying the struggle and the effort)
What about you? Do you have a chosen life work? A worthy purpose? Or are you still looking and deciding and experimenting?
This will be an area we talk about in my upcoming online class! Make sure you’re on the L&R mailing list for early news and pre-sale discounts …..
The class is to be announced in July. Among other things, we will be talking about doing the work you are meant to do.

I can’t tell you how excited I was when I learned that Prince Edward Island is a REAL PLACE!
