A year to NURTURE

This year, I am focusing on making the small choices to bring my One Little Word into my life on a weekly-or-so basis.

This year I want to NURTURE my life and the things I already have, rather than fall into that rat-race-style trap of more, bigger, further, etc. I want to cultivate my existing business rather than stretching myself too thin. I want to take care of ME and all the little pieces that make up me.

nurturing goalsI made a small list of goals for what it looks like to NURTURE the things in my life.

Being BRAVE is more of a clear intention – there’s a scary choice and there’s a brave choice. But NURTURE seems a lot more subjective to me.

So rather than just go about my life, wondering if I am being nurturing, I came up with a small handful of goals that (I decided) if they are reached will be evidence that I have been nurturing. A little roundabout, maybe, but the best way I know to make this work influential in my life throughout the year.

I like having a goal or end point to aim for. It makes me focus my individual tasks rather than wander aimlessly.

These goals are on cards that will fit in my 3×3 9-pocket page. This is similar to the July project from 2013 – but will cover the whole year and be intentional goals. I’ll simply date and journal the card once the goal is completed and insert it in the page throughout the year.

I realize the cards are essentially blank at the moment, but I have the specifics in my brain. I want to stay flexible and be able to celebrate what I DO accomplish, even if I don’t meet the exact SMART goal in my head.

Flexible but intentional.

How are you integrating your One Little Word?

I think your OLW is perfect for you. After your year of “brave” (which you pulled off quite nicely—quitting the day job had to be so scary), you deserve to “nurture” yourself and all that is important in your life. I look forward to seeing how your OLW unfolds this year.

I think what’s crazy about my little word is that I don’t really have an ultimate goal or plan in mind for “NOW”. The only thing I want to ask of myself is that in each moment I ask myself “Am I fully enjoying this moment?” or “Why am I waiting?”. Half of my focus on “NOW” is meant to curb my recent addiction to procrastination, even the little, 5-minute tasks; the other half is meant to stop me from planning SO FREAKING FAR in advance.

I could come up with some little steps on the way, but I’m pretty low key with this “goal” – I just want to make it a mantra, at least.

I’m really digging how you have specific intentions for each month rather than obtuse ones. Awesome. I have my monthly intentions set, I just need to make my word VISIBLE in my life. Any suggestions?

Love your goals for nurturing. Should “family” also be on that list so they don’t get left behind?
