How do other people know you’re successful? What are all those traditional awards and accolades everyone in your industry is chasing after?
Do you care about having thousands of Facebook likes or about being on everyone’s Twitter #FollowFriday lists? Do you care about being the next ______ Blogger of the Month or having thousands of subscribers to sell to your advertisers? Are you counting on landing on the front page of Etsy? Do you need to win some best photographer award so you can put a badge on your site? Are you stressing out about making your book make it to the NY Times best-seller list?
Recognition like this is both an indicator that people like what you do, and an amplifier to help you reach more people. It helps other people measure your success.
But …… do you REALLY need those things? Or can you create your own journey with your own measures of success?
How to measure success
Are you satisfied with the way you spend your days?
That’s it. That’s all that matters.
There are factors that can go into this – like do you know you’re doing your best, or are you helping other people. But bottom line is you can measure your success by how satisfied YOU are with what you are doing.
