Last year Andrew and I spent a week in Alaska and then another week in Scotland. And this year NOTHING.
I’m going a little crazy. Getting a little antsy when I see other people’s travel photos.
Partly because of money, but MOSTLY because Andrew and I couldn’t both get time off at the same time we ended up sticking close to home this year.
But, I couldn’t let the full summer go by without escaping for just a little bit. Trees and fresh air and new sites and hotels were calling to me.
So we planned a short weekend-away in Big Bear. That is, after all, one of the best things about living in Southern California. There is ALWAYS some place new and fun just a short car ride away.
This post is just to show you my little minibook that I made from the trip. You can see more photos and read all the stories here:
But let’s get on to the good stuff …..
My Big-Bear-weekend-trip minibook is 4×6 …. and *nearly* every page is a photo. With some hand-written journaling periodically throughout…..
The front cover is repurposed from a 4×6″ mixed paper book I bought from Elise last year (not currently available). It’s a lovely thick fabric, with the blank label included, and cardboard back cover.
Below, you can find a small selection of the layouts included – photos taken with my iPhone, Andrew’s iPhone and my dSLR (go here to see ALL the photos we took in Big Bear). I included business cards and a map of our hotel, and Andrew has promised to do a little bit of journaling in the book for me (he’s the best).
As you can see …. it’s just photos+words – my memory keeping style of choice.
In some places you can see I created photo collages (similar method discussed here) – mostly used when I had several very similar images I wanted to include.
But mostly this is just a big stack of 4×6 photos bound together.
And I love it…
SUPPLIES used:
- book cover from Elise Cripe
- book rings from Staples
- scrap cardstock from my supplies
- SMASH date stamp (on cover)
That’s it. The end. I used adhesive to stick the photos back to back, staples to attach the business cards and a plain Bic black pen to write.
What do you think?

WHOA. What a thick mini!
I love how simple your approach is to memory keeping– and it always looks great too!
