Last week I released a new journaling resource for your summer – Summer Lovin’ (had me a blast)!
Is it weird that I already have gone back and re-read the entire thing to get ideas for my current Summer minbook? I did.
I am SO inspired to start journaling stories of past summers, impressions of this summer, and other little season details I wouldn’t otherwise think to record ….
Grab your copy of the summer journaling resource for your own summer memory-keeping …. and in the meantime check out the first few pages of my Summer minibook …
I will only be using materials I already have in the house – they’ve all been in storage for 4 years, so I really need to!
The minibook cover is made from a mailing envelop that I received photo prints in … Added bonus: My mailing address is still on the envelope so it’s an added little memory-keeping boost!
I covered the outside of the minibook with cardstock, so the mailing address faces the interior …
I chose this patterned paper (the plaid-ish) as the *basic* color scheme for the book … and dug out the cardstock to match.
The stars in the background are a foam stamp (Making Memories brand, maybe)…
The word SUMMER is my own handwriting, the 2012 is another Making-Memories-I-think foam stamp.
All glued down and sealed with Mod Podge (which, as we know from this post I have a TON of)
Yea, I’m currently using book rings that are FAR too big … but my hope is that the book will be so full by the end of August that this size is justified!
(You should be able to click through these images to view larger ones on Flickr)
Blurry part on the inside of the cover is my address – my NEW address! Our NEW house! Our FIRST SUMMER IN OUR NEW HOUSE!!!!
Sorry, I’m kind of excited about that
Beginning “page” is just this simple card with Jun July Aug stamped on it (again, foam stamps) ….. toying with the idea of restamping similar cards to use throughout the book with the appropriate month circled to match the dates. We’ll see.
Back side of the month card …. I simply pasted part of an image from an old Sunset magazine (from an article on peaches+grilling. The perfect summer combo).
Next “page” is the front cover of an old Sunset Magazine. My mother gave me a bunch of her old Sunset Magazine issues when we bought our house, along with a new subscription …. there’s just something about the subject matter of Sunset (home, garden and travel) that is all I love about summer ….
I just used a few swipes of white paint over one of the headlines to create a journaling patch. This is the first time I’ve used that particular technique. SO easy….
The back of the Sunset cover was a car ad. Bleck.
So …. I covered it with more of this patterned scrapbook paper.
I found this summer quote just by chance (in my own handwriting here)…. In with all my scrapbooking supplies was a mostly-blank journal that I had used to plan pages … I literally opened it at random to see what was in it and found a handful of quotes recorded … including this!
I’ve got a small collection of summer quotes that I’ve found over the last couple weeks …. I will likely add them throughout the book!
Since we’re just *barely* into summer, I don’t have hardly any photos or stories of 2012-summer-events, but my Summer Lovin journaling resource has a ton of not-necessarily-this-year ideas to include!
