Onward and Upward FAQs

Onward and Upward pre-registration opens tomorrow morning …. so make sure you’re on the L&R mailing list for your discount!

I really could NOT be more excited about this online workshop! I’ve been dreaming and planning and writing for almost a year now, and I can’t wait to see how this little online community fills out and shapes up :)

Since I announced the dates of the workshop, I’ve gotten a few questions ….

Here are some FAQs – and please feel free to leave your own questions in the comments if they are not answered here!

Q: Where did the idea of Onward and Upward come from?

Once, about a year ago, someone close to me made a crack about my ‘day job.’

Now, I’m definitely a sarcastic person and 99 times out of 100 I can totally take whatever I dish out.

But this time was different.

This time it hurt.

Not just because it was true.

This little jab from someone close to me hurt because it was something I had been thinking myself and was kind of ashamed of.

She was joking about how what I do for work doesn’t make a difference to anyone.

Which is exactly what I was thinking when I started working on this class material.

We all have work we were put on this earth to do – and it’s time to really discover what that is.

And act on it.

Q: What format are the sessions taught in?

The sessions are in text form, published as blog posts throughout the 6 weeks of the workshop. While I may experiment with adding video, all sessions will appear in text first and foremost.

Q: I don’t live in the US, will my time zone affect my course?

Not at all. The sessions will all be posted at the same time every day. As the bulk of the discussion for the workshop will be done in the group forum and in the comments of the session, the actual time that you come online to participate shouldn’t make a difference.

Q: Do I need to be a blogger to participate in Onward and Upward?

Not at all.

You will, of course, need internet access as this is an online workshop.

But this is NOT a blogging workshop. Nor is it really a business workshop.

You may benefit from having an online presence of some kind, so the other attendees can better connect with you, but there’s no reason that needs to be a blog.

Q: What can I do to prepare for Onward and Upward?

Before registering, it might be helpful to read some of the Lemon and Raspberry archives, to get a feel for my writing and teaching style. While there will be outside resources brought in, much of the material in Onward and Upward will be communicated by ME.

If you don’t like me or the way I write, it’s better to know before you register :)

After registering, the best way to prepare for Onward and Upward is to schedule in time for it.

Take a look at your calendar for October and into November and block out the time that you can for reading the material, interacting in the forum, and writing through the ‘homework’.

There are no special materials or required supplies for the workshop – just the time to devote.

Q: I find myself falling behind when I do projects like this, will Onward and Upward be available longer than the class dates?

The private blog for Onward and Upward 2011 will be available at least a year.

Additionally, I’ve scheduled in a week-long break in the middle for catching up for those of us who need it (I always do when I do projects like this)

AND … The private forum will stay open and I’ll be available via email at any time after the workshop ends, so you can feel free to take your time

Q: What can I do to help spread the word about Onward and Upward?

Feel free to blog about the workshop, email your friends or post on any social network.

I’m available for interviews any time leading up to the class… .and you can follow the Twitter hashtag #OandU2011

Q: Will we have assignments and due dates during the workshop?

There are no due dates.

There WILL be a couple small projects and “homework” to think about, but there is no reason you should stress yourself out.

The intent is to work at your own pace in the way that most benefits your life and your way of learning.

No rush.

Q: How do I know if Onward and Upward is right for me?

Through this workshop we will work together and work through:

  • recognizing the details of your life that make you most happy
  • recognizing what your GREAT WORK is
  • working through any fear or hesitation in giving ourselves permission to do that GREAT WORK
  • encouraging each other how to best seek and do that GREAT WORK
  • gathering the action steps to make it happen
  • … and more!

Onward and Upward is for ….  anyone who knows she is not doing her best, anyone who feels she has something more to give, anyone who might feel like she may be floundering, anyone who is not sure what she wants to do in life.

Onward and Upward is NOT for …. anyone who is right all the time, anyone who has never made mistakes, or anyone who judges other people for their mistakes.

Q: What can I expect to get once I’ve registered?

Upon registration, you should be given access to download a pdf file. Once downloaded, be sure to print and/or save the pdf to your computer. This file contains your login info necessary for accessing the private blog where the online workshop will be held.

Just about every morning throughout the course of the workshop, a session or resource or additional guidance will be posted in the private blog – so you’ll want to come back frequently to double check.

In addition, I am currently working on securing some exclusive interviews from other bloggers and artists you may be familiar with.

I will be scheduling a couple of live chats to be held during the workshop, there will be a group discussion forum available immediately for all participants AND you may contact me at any time during those weeks for additional questions, information, etc.

Q: If have a question about the course. Who can I contact?

Email me – AMY [at] lemonandraspberry.com – with any additional questions.
