[ Some business and details ]

Welcome back to our Lemon and Raspberry week-long online workshop: Better Blog Content.

So far this week, you’ve chosen (or focused on) your blog industry and niche. Keep that focus.

Also this week, you’ve identified your target audience (with details)!

You’ve identified what problem your blog is helping solve and who it is that needs that help.

But how do YOU fit into your blog content?

Easily.

Bloggers tend to be a special group of people who have no problem talking about themselves :) (in general)….

But, remember this ….

Your readers care about themselves first.

Your readers may very well adore you, but if you put too much focus on yourself it could make them feel not valued or like you don’t need them. There is really nothing I love more than a writer or blogger who seems genuinely grateful for their audience.

Put the focus on your readers.

Which is why you should think about your blog’s topic as a message to your readers, or a problem you are helping them solve.

You may not have noticed, but the bulk of the sessions of this workshop are purposely designed as question to YOU – the reader. Completely intentional.

Yes, I know you wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t interested it what I as the author has to say, and my own personal experience. But you also wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t think it would be of some value TO YOU.

Unsubscribers

And now is the perfect time to remind you – if someone unsubscribes from your feed … please don’t take it personally.

Your readers care about themselves first.

Maybe your reader is cutting back on the blogs she follows to spend more time with her family. Are you going to begrudge her that? Maybe you’ve started blogging about your new puppy, but your reader has a serious dog-phobia.
Please try to remember that any time someone unsubscribes – it has nothing to do with you personally. There is ALWAYS something else going on in that reader’s life to influence that decision.

Let’s just say for arguments sake that you DO have a mortal enemy – someone who has a huge problem with you personally (I don’t believe it). … Even if that were the case, why would they have subscribed to your blog in the first place? Answer: They wouldn’t.

Unsubscribers aren’t judging you or your content. They are just not your ideal reader. And that’s OK.

BOUNDARIES and POSITIVITY

Bottom line: This is my mantra.

Boundaries and positivity.

If you are starting to feel like there is only ever drama around you – it’s because YOU are attracting it. If you are starting to feel like too many people know your business – it’s because YOU are sharing it with the wrong people.
I wouldn’t lie to you about this.

If you don’t want the drama, maintain your boundaries and positivity.

Boundaries : What you WILL and WILL NOT discuss online.

Positivity : Showing respect and politeness to everyone online.

You can reach your own definitions of what your online boundaries are, or what level of respect you show online … but this is a good place to start.

HOMEWORK:

Focus on your readers.
Go back through your archives and pick some past posts to re-focus on the reader.
Good examples: any DIY project can be “How You Can …”; any personal/life post can have a good reader-takeaway/lesson added to the end.
Get rid of the negativity. Keep it positive and respectful.
Be honest. Go through your archives and flat-out DELETE the posts that are whining or complaining.

And finally, if you have specific questions you’d like me to address, please leave them in the comments. I want you to get as much out of this mini online workshop as possible.
